Crom Carmichael Describes the Dangerous Issues with Mail-Out Voting and Laws

 

Live from Music Row Wednesday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. –  host Leahy welcomed the original all-star panelist Crom Carmichael to the studio.

At the end of the second hour, Carmichael discussed the issues of mail-out voting by citing the recent mayhem in the states of Nevada and New York due to poor voting laws.

Leahy: That is President Trump Talking about the pending fraud of the voter mail-out program that you’ve been talking about Crom. And setting up the signal that this is going to be big-time trouble.

Carmichael: Well I have some additional information from the discussion we had the other day. There are two big problems. The two biggest problems with mail-out voting or even absentee voting. In New York, they had terrible chaos and mayhem.

As we discussed the other day there were 95,000 ballots that were counted in that race and the judge threw out 13,000 other ballots saying there was no way to count to know enough and to count them so just throw them out. So that’s 14 percent. OK?

Leahy: That’s a lot.

Carmichael: That would be the equivalent to almost 18 million votes nationwide. So let’s examine why did that happen in New York? And the answer is very simple. New York state has a terrible law when it comes to absentee ballots. You can request an absentee ballot seven days before the election.

Leahy: That’s pretty quick. Seven days?

Carmichael: Yes. You can’t process it. If somebody requests an absentee ballot, first of all, it has to be postmarked that they requested for seven days. Then the election officials receive it with four days to go. If it’s done over a weekend and it has to be, that seven days has to include two days. So if it’s done over a weekend now you are down to two days. They have to, first of all, authenticate that the absentee ballot request is legitimate. That takes some time.

Leahy: Sure.

Carmichael: Whether it takes a few hours or if there is a crush of ballot requests at the last minute then it takes days. And then they turn around and mail those out. And that may take two or three days to get there. And then the voter gets it and turns it in.

And that’s why they had ballots coming in ten days to two weeks after the election. And by the way, if you have a return address where its already stamped, it avoids the date stamped machines. Now you don’t even know what the date stamp is on the ballot when it is coming back because that’s the way that the post office handles return mail where there isn’t a stamp and the postage is prepaid.

The mayhem in New York was because of that and they were absentee ballots. Now,  if you do just straight mail out ballots if a state does not regularly and frankly right before they do the mail out ballots clean the voter rolls.

If they don’t do that they are going to mail out some number and if they’ve gone three or four years which in some blue states they’ve gone more than that where they have not cleaned the voter rolls. They are going to send out hundreds of thousands, or even millions.

20 percent to addresses to where the people don’t live there anymore. And that’s what Trump is talking about. Bill Barr talked about a friend of his in Texas who used to live in Washington state and left Washington state 21 years ago received a mail-out ballot from the state of Washington at his address in Texas.

Leahy: So even in the states where they have existing absentee ballot laws…

Carmichael: If they are bad laws. Now if they say you have to request your absentee ballot a month before the election then there is plenty of time to do all of the appropriate checking to mail out the absentee ballot and for the voter to return it before the election. There is plenty of time. So I’m in favor of that.

And that’s pretty much what we do here in Tennessee. In fact, even in Tennessee, you have to vote in person the first time so that you prove in person that you are valid. But then after that, you can request an absentee ballot but there is a considerable time period before the election that if you haven’t requested it by then you can’t.

In New York their law is terrible. And apparently they are not going to change it. So they are going to do the same thing. So you can just guarantee it will be a mess again in New York. I don’t know how many other states have absentee ballots where you can request it within seven days or even 10 days.

Leahy: That’s a formula for disaster.

Carmichael: It is. It is saying I want a disaster so I’m going to have a law that creates a disaster.

Leahy: That’s a very good way of putting it.

Carmichael: Oh yeah. This isn’t, oh my gosh I never thought of it. Yes, you did. And you acted in a way to get the disaster. But the mail out voting, what we talked about earlier was when Trump sent out checks, the media made a big fanfare that he sent out $1.4 billion worth of checks to dead people.

Which was 1.2 million checks to dead people. Well, three million people unbeknownst to CNN, die in this country every year. Yes, there are people who die from things other than COVID. In fact, the great majority of people that die, 85 percent of the country don’t die from COVID.

Leahy: I think CNN has missed that fact. (Laughs)

Carmichael: But 1.2 million checks to dead people simply means that the social security system or the IRS or whatever database they used has not been updated for four to five months. That’s all that would be.

Leahy: Exactly.

Carmichael: So if you extend that nationwide and you extend that to two years or even in the blue states and you extend it to two years you are now up to what happened in Nevada. Sixteen percent of the ballots they sent out were sent to dead people or sent to people that have moved. So that is what Trump is talking about. I have intelligent friends that are NeverTrumpers. Not many, but even my intelligent friends are NeverTrumpers will not even listen to the argument.

Leahy: Why is that?

Carmichael: That’s a great question. By the way, I have no clue what the answer is. Because these are people who in their business dealings they want the facts before they make a decision.

Leahy: I have the same experience with a left-wing friend of mine from many many years. We tried to have this conversation. They don’t want to hear it.

Carmichael: They don’t even want to hear the facts.
